Hello, I’m Michael Beaty, the hands and heart behind Refined Carpentry Co. Carpentry has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I come from a long line of old-school carpenters and craftsmen—my dad, my great-uncles, and the generations of skilled hands that came before me. I grew up around men who believed that if a job was worth doing, it was worth doing right. You didn’t cut corners. You took your time, paid attention to the details, and cared about the quality of your work—even in the places no one else would ever see.

Later, in California, I had the opportunity to apprentice under my uncle, one of the finest craftsmen I’ve ever known. Working alongside him took those lessons even deeper and shaped the way I approach my craft today. Over the years, my experience has grown to encompass nearly every stage of residential construction—from building homes from the ground up to remodeling, repairs, detailed finish carpentry, and everything in between.

Today, in addition to operating Refined Carpentry Co., I work professionally as a Lead Carpenter with Northrop Grumman. While my professional experience has given me the opportunity to work on projects of significant scope, some of the work I enjoy most is much closer to home: helping a homeowner finally tackle a project that has been on the list, transforming a room through a remodel, or putting my attention to detail into beautiful finish work.

Finish carpentry has always been one of my greatest passions. I love the precision of it. I love taking something ordinary and making it beautiful, and I’m particular about getting the details right. Whether I’m doing custom finish work, remodeling a room, installing a door, or taking care of a small repair, I bring that same old-school standard of quality and care to the job. I don’t believe in “good enough,” and I don’t believe in cutting corners just because no one will notice.

I also have a special heart for serving the elderly. Sometimes that means making thoughtful modifications so someone can safely and comfortably age in place. Other times it means taking care of repairs that have become difficult to manage, updating a longtime home, helping prepare a home for sale, or stepping in during a season of life when an extra set of trustworthy hands means a little more than usual. Whatever brings me into someone’s home, I want them to feel cared for and respected. One of the principles I try to live by—in my work and in life—is to leave people better than I found them.

More than anything, I’m a husband and a dad to four boys. When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me fishing, camping, or doing just about anything outdoors with my family. Raising our boys is one of the greatest responsibilities God has given us. My wife and I homeschool them and are intentional about building their character, raising disciples, and teaching them to love what is good and true. Our home is full of boys, projects, fresh bread baking in the kitchen, and plenty of everyday chaos—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The name Refined isn’t just a reference to fine craftsmanship. It represents something much deeper to me. As a follower of Jesus, I believe God is continually refining us through sanctification—shaping our character, removing what doesn’t belong, and making us more like Christ. Refinement takes time. It takes patience. And sometimes it takes being worked on in places no one else can see.

In many ways, that’s how I was taught to approach craftsmanship, too.

Quality matters. Details matter. Character matters.

That’s the legacy of the craftsmen who taught me, and it’s the standard I want to carry forward through Refined Carpentry Co. Whether you call me for a small handyman project, detailed finish carpentry, an aging-in-place modification, or a larger remodel, my goal is simple: do honest work, never cut corners, treat your home with care, and leave you better than I found you.
